These Spanish Properties are the equivalent of the English Country Cottage, lovingly restored Cave Houses in the picturesque village of Galera located in Rural Andalucía, Spain. The Caves are all within walking distance of the village centre.
The pretty white village of Galera nestles at over 800 metres above sea level in the contrasting landscape of the Granada region of Spain. Its central area, with desert landscapes, is hemmed in by stunning mountain ranges. Galera is firstly a farming community, followed closely as a rural tourist attraction, well known in Spain and also becoming famous in the UK due to recent TV holiday programmes. Recently with the rise in Spanish Property prices on the coast the modern Cave Homes here are becoming increasingly popular due their very low prices and ‘eco’ living.
The village has three banks, two supermarkets, various shops and six bars. Most bars serve free tapas (small snacks) or food at very reasonable prices, the cost of living in this area is very low. Viewpoints in the village boast stunning views as do many of the caves. Painters, nature lovers and those seeking to immerse themselves in tranquillity and local culture will be in their element in this environment.
There are many surrounding white villages to discover in the region, several lakes and natural hot springs for water lovers. Nearby you can go horse riding or take lessons, you can take the kids go-karting a few miles away or to Mini-Holywood in Almeria and of course there's the Alhambra Palace in Granada, a must for the culture vulture. Galera is a prefect location as it is just over an hour from the coast and also from the Sierra Nevada where you can ski in winter.
Archaeological digs have shown the area was populated more than a million years ago. The area has a wealth of remains of ancient civilisations and prehistoric animals.
